The Bearded Ecologist assisting with Bearded Dragon research in Queensland, Australia.

Daniel Bardey or “The Bearded Ecologist” has been working within the environmental sector for 12 years, and holds Natural England protected species licences for bats, barn owls and great crested newts! First studying in Brighton and within the heart of the South Downs, Daniel holds a Master of Research in Ecology and a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Sciences.

Prior to becoming self employed as an Ecological Consultant delivering habitat and protected species surveys, Daniel has had the privilege of being able to work within the Civil Service, Non-Profits and Commercial Enterprises. This experiences includes time working for the Victorian State Government in Australia, an Anti-Poaching Officer in South Africa and even a Zoo-Keeper!

Over the years, the main focus of Daniel’s skill set has been focused on ecological field surveying and research, technical ecological reports, citizen science engagement and regulatory compliance & stake holder management.

For Daniel’s MRES project, he worked on an EU Erasmus funded project, researching how land management effects invertebrate species richness and diversity in Estonian wet grasslands. This gave Daniel strong fundamentals in invertebrate identification and producing a standard of work that would go on to advise international management strategies.

Outside of his professional environment, Daniel is always seeking unique opportunities to volunteer and assist with research and organisations to continually develop himself and give back to the natural world. This has included being a wildlife rescuer in Australia, assisting with research looking at Bearded Dragons in outback Queensland and volunteering with charity fundraising events.

Here at The Bearded Ecologist, we underpin everything with good quality science and data, ensuring we have the means to best support your projects and planning applications.
